Engineered wood is the steadier choice in a house that runs air conditioning much of the year, and we stock it widely.
Engineered boards are built from a hardwood wear layer over a cross-layered core, which moves less than solid wood as the indoor air changes, and they go over slabs, upper floors, and radiant heat. Solid oak is stocked for nail-down installation over a wood subfloor, along with walnut, hickory, and maple, in strip through wide-plank widths.

Anything in the range can be sampled first, free by mail in small format or brought to the house as large boards.
Installation

Nail-down, bonded, or floated, matched to the subfloor you have.
The wood is delivered ahead of installation so it can settle in the house before it goes down, and an expansion gap is left at every wall and vertical, hidden under the base, so the floor has room as it grows and shrinks through the year. Delivery, removal and haul-away of the old floor, underlayment, transitions, thresholds, and trim are all quoted with the wood.
Existing Floors

Repairs first, then sanding, because a floor is only worth sanding once it is sound.
Loose boards are refastened, damaged boards replaced and stain matched, and squeaks traced to the subfloor rather than covered over. Then the floor goes back to bare wood and the finish is rebuilt. Where a finish is worn but not worn through, screening and recoating is the lighter service and it leaves the wood underneath untouched. How much sanding a floor has left is read at a vent or a threshold.
Stairs
Hardwood stairs, nosings, treads, and risers.
Treads, risers, and nosings for the two-storey and split-level houses.
We install hardwood nosings, treads, and risers, cut to match the floor in species, stain, and sheen so the two read as one surface, or contrasted where the stair should stand on its own. Carpeted stairs can be converted to wood, and stairs are measured on the same visit as the floors. More on our stair work.

Small samples ship to your door at no cost, which is the simplest way to shortlist. Large sample boards come out with the in-home visit, several at a time, and stay with you long enough to be seen in morning light and again in the evening. The same visit covers the rooms, the transitions, and the stairs if they are in scope.

What we get asked most before a job here.
Do you supply the flooring or only install it?
Both. We stock it, deliver it, and install it, and the written estimate covers the wood and the work as separate lines.
My seams open up every summer. Can you help?
Yes. We carry engineered wood, which moves less than solid wood as the indoor air changes, and we repair and replace boards that have cupped or gapped for good. Bring it up at the consultation and we will look at the floor and the room together.
Do I need a full refinish or just a recoat?
If bare wood is showing in the traffic paths, it needs sanding. If the finish is dull and scratched but still intact, a screen and recoat is enough and it leaves the wood untouched.
Can hardwood go over my slab?
Engineered hardwood can, glued down or floated. Solid hardwood cannot, because nothing should be fastened into the slab.
