Pasadena
We supply and install hardwood flooring in Pasadena, and we refinish and repair the floors already there. Recoating and hardwood stairs as well. Samples ship free, and large boards come out to lay against the floor you have.

Our Range
The hardwood we carry.
Including the cuts and widths that older houses here were originally floored in.
Oak in narrow strip through wide plank, plus walnut, hickory, and maple, in solid form for nail-down installation over a wood subfloor and engineered form for slabs, additions, and radiant heat. Quarter-sawn white oak can be ordered in, which is the cut used in many of the early houses, and herringbone, chevron, and border work are available in either construction.
- Solid hardwood, in strip and plank, quarter-sawn to order
- Engineered hardwood, for slabs, additions, and radiant heat
- Luxury vinyl and laminate, for baths, laundries, and rentals
Samples of anything here ship free, and large boards come out to the house so they can be laid straight against the floor you already have.
Installation
Period-correct hardwood flooring installation in Pasadena.
A new floor in an older house has to agree with what is already down.
We order to the species, cut, width, and thickness of the existing floor where a run is being extended, and set the new boards flush rather than leaving a lip at the join. Where an addition sits on a slab and the original floor is on a wood subfloor, the two get a planned threshold instead of a pretended continuous run. Delivery, removal and haul-away of the old covering, underlayment, transitions, and trim are quoted with the wood.
Original Floors
Refinishing the oak already under the carpet.
Carpet, and later vinyl over plywood, went over a great deal of it.
Tack strip holes, staple marks, and the dark border where an old finish stopped all sand out, so a floor that looks past saving is frequently one that needs sanding. We take it to bare wood in stages, with edges, corners, and closets done by hand, and rebuild the finish on top. Screening and recoating is the lighter service where a finish is worn but not worn through. How much sanding a floor has left is read at a vent or a threshold at the consultation.
Repair
Board repair, and matching a board no longer made.
Strip widths, thicknesses, and bevels have shifted over the decades, so this is a matching job.
We match on species and cut first, then width and thickness, then close what is left with stain. A modern board sitting proud or shy of the old one is planed or shimmed rather than left as a lip, and where nothing available will blend into a long run, sanding the room brings the old and the new to one tone. Patterned and bordered floors are repaired and refinished the same way rather than replaced.
Stairs
Hardwood stairs, nosings, treads, and risers.
Treads, risers, and nosings for the two-storey houses, including converting carpeted stairs to wood.
We install hardwood nosings, treads, and risers, cut to match the floor in species, stain, and sheen so the two read as one surface, or contrasted where the stair should stand on its own. Carpeted stairs can be converted to wood, and stairs are measured on the same visit as the floors. More on our stair work.
Samples
Samples against the floor you already have.
When the job is matching rather than choosing, the sample has to sit on the floor it needs to agree with.
Small samples ship to your door free. Large sample boards come out to the house with the in-home visit, several at a time, and stay with you. Lay them straight against the existing floor, in daylight and again in the evening. Wood that will not quite agree can usually be stained to close the difference, and the full range is in the showroom.

FAQ
Questions from Pasadena homeowners
What we get asked most before a job here.
Do you supply the flooring or only install it?
Both. We supply it, deliver it, and install it, and the written estimate covers the wood and the work as separate lines.
There is carpet over my floors. Is the original oak still under there?
In an older house it very often is, and usually in better condition than expected because the carpet protected it. Lift a corner in a closet or pull a floor vent and look, or we can check it at the consultation.
Can you match quarter-sawn oak?
Yes. It is a specialty cut rather than a stock item, so it is ordered in, and we match the cut before matching the color.
My floor has been sanded before. Can it be sanded again?
It depends how much wood sits above the tongue, which we read at a vent or a threshold. Where there is enough, yes. Where there is not, we recommend a recoat or a new floor instead.
Can a patterned or bordered floor be repaired and refinished?
Yes, and it is usually worth doing rather than replacing. Patterned work is slower and more exacting than a plain field, so it is measured and discussed on its own.
